Dilation
A size transformation that produces a similar figure. Angles have the same measure, and sides are similar.
Scale Factor
The factor by which each pre-image point is multiplied to get the image points in a dilation.
Pre-image
The original figure before a dilation.
Image
The new figure after a dilation.
A′ (A prime)
Symbol used to denote the vertices of the image after a transformation such as dilation.
Scale factor greater than 1
The figure gets larger.
Scale factor less than 1
The figure gets smaller.
Scale factor of 1
The figure stays the same size.
