Neutrophil
A type of white blood cell that is one of the first to arrive at a site of infection and helps destroy bacteria
Vasodilation
Widening of blood vessels, which increases blood flow to an area.
Bradykinin
A chemical that causes pain, vasodilation, and increased blood vessel permeability during inflammation
Hyperemia
Increased blood flow to a specific part of the body, often causing redness and warmth.
Permeability
The ability of blood vessels to allow fluids and cells to pass through their walls.
Chemical mediators
Substances (like histamine or prostaglandins) released during inflammation that control and regulate the immune response.
Interferons
Proteins produced by cells in response to viruses that help protect nearby cells from infection.
Phagocytosis
The process by which certain cells (like neutrophils and macrophages) engulf and digest pathogens or debris.
Prostaglandin
A chemical that promotes inflammation, pain, and fever.
Chemotaxis
The movement of immune cells toward the site of infection or injury in response to chemical signals.
Leukocyte
Another name for a white blood cell.
Purulent
Containing pus, usually due to infection.
Erythema
Redness of the skin caused by increased blood flow.
Exudate .
Fluid rich in proteins and cells that leaks out of blood vessels during inflammation.
Macrophage
A large white blood cell that engulfs and digests pathogens and dead cells.
Pyrexia
Fever; an increase in body temperature.
Histamine
A chemical released by certain cells that causes vasodilation and increased permeability during inflammation.
Fibrinogen
A blood protein that helps form clots by turning into fibrin
Malaise
A general feeling of discomfort, illness, or lack of well-being.
Pyrogens
Substances that cause fever, often produced by bacteria or immune cells.
Edema
