what is globalisation?
when countries becodme increasingly conencted to eachother
it involves the flow of goods, ideas, people and money worldwide
types of globalisation
economic - when countries make products to export worldwide
political - when countries and organizations like the UN join together to create international agreements
social - when people use social media to connect across the world
cultural - media (eg. books, news) spread across the world
causes of globalisation
better methods of transport to export goods across the world
eg. containerization - the use of standard-dimension boxes to store products while they are transported
what are clone towns?
when a high street becomes increasingly like others in the world due to the increase of chain stores
chain stores are stores that can be foundall around the world and are (mostly) big companies with a worldwide presence (eg. starbucks)
why are clone towns a problem?
high streets will become less usinque, which impacts tourism, which can impact the countries economy
it means that small businesses will struggle as they will have to face much more well-known competition
this can impact people’s lives as they will no longer have jobs
what is fast fashion?
fast fashion is clothes made fast, to be thrown away fast. They focus more on quantity than quality
causes of fast fashion?
the desire for unique wardrobes, and wearing new clothes as often as possible
poeple crave to be different, prompting companies to work fast to produce new, unique clothes - companies benefit from globalisation as they can ship clothes around the world faster
20% of mass-produced clothing does not even get sold, and ends up being buried, shredded or burned.
