Hydration of Ethene
A chemical reaction where water is added to ethene to produce ethanol.
Ethanol uses
A high percentage industrial alcohol produced from the hydration of ethene, used primarily as a cleaning product and solvent.
Steam
Water vapor used in the hydration of ethene, carried out at high temperatures.
Concentrated acid catalyst
An acid, such as sulfuric or phosphoric acid, required to facilitate the hydration reaction.
Reaction conditions for hydration of ethene
Carried out at 300 degrees C and 65 atmospheres.
Industrial ethanol
Ethanol produced through the hydration of ethene, distinct from fermentation ethanol.
