The process of stored glycogen being broken back down to glucose. This occurs when the body requires more glucose than is being ingested. This process is triggered by the hormones adrenaline and glucagon.

Lipolysis

Lipolysis is the process of releasing triglycerides from the body's stores. Triglycerides supported by enzymes are converted into glycerol and fatty acids. Fatty acids are then available for the energy-generating β-oxidation. This process is stimulated by the hormone glucagon.
