Onomatopoeia
Is a combination of speech sounds which aim at imitating sounds produced by nature, animals or things. (Direct, indirect - evoke sounds but don’t directly replace them)
Alliteration
Is a phonetic stylistic device which aims at creating a melodic effect of the utterance , repetition of similar consonant sounds (sight, sound, sensation)
Rhyme
Consists of repetition of identical or similar terminal sound combinations of words. 1. Full, 2. Incomplete
Full rhyme
Built on identity of the vowel sounds and the following consonant sounds in stressed syllables (love-dove)
Incomplete rhyme
Is based on repetition of vowel sounds (fresh - press) or consonant sounds only (flung - long)
Sounds are similar but not identical
Rhytm
always based on regular recurrence of some identical elements
In verse created by number of stresses in line, in prose rhytm is based on the use of certain stylistic devices (enumeration, repetition, parallel constructions)
