Texture
refers to the way in which melody and harmony are organized. How the layer of music is organized
Monophonic – One line of music with no accompaniment.
Polyphonic – Two or more independent lines of music. Think of counterpoint.
Homophonic – Two or more lines of music. However, one of the lines is more important while the other is accompaniment. Think of melody and harmony.
Heterophonic – Two or more lines playing the same melody. However, one of the lines is more elaborate but still melodically and rhythmically aligned with the other line.
