First step of ECC
• Action potential travels along sarcolemma → down T-tubules.
Second step of ECC
• Signal triggers sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) to release Ca²■.
Third step of ECC
• Ca²■ binds to troponin, moving tropomyosin off actin binding sites.
Fourth step of ECC
• Myosin binds to actin → cross-bridge cycle starts.
Fifth step of ECC
• When stimulation ends → Ca²■ pumped back into SR.
Sixth step of ECC
• Troponin-tropomyosin block returns → muscle relaxes.
