- Check the airway and remove any foreign debris
- BreathingCheck to see if the dog is breathing
Where do you find your dog's pulse?

What is Cardiopulmonary arrest?
This is when a dogs heart has stopped beating and they have stopped breathing
What does CPA Stand for?
Cardiopulmonary arrest
What is Cardiopulmonary arrest doing to a dog?
Since oxygen is no longer flowing rapid, irreversible organ damage is happening and every second counts.
What is Cardiopulmonary resuscitation?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a technique you can use to replace the normal functions of the heart and lungs.
What does CPR stand for?
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
What is the goal of CPR?
Provide blood flow by compressing (pushing on) the chest to mimic the function of a beating heart and to provide oxygen and carbon dioxide excretion from the blood by blowing air into the dogs nose to mimic normal breathing
When do you begin CPR?
After going through the steps of CAB
Circulation - does the dog have a pulse?
Airway - check for obstructions, pull tongue to front of mouth
Breathing - begin mouth to snout giving breaths every 3-5 seconds until they can breath on their own
What are the two processes of CPR?
Chest compressions and mouth to mouth.
How to determine if your dog is in CPA?
1) Stimulate your pet to see if they respond.
2) Determine if your dog is breathing.
3) If he/she is not breathing, check the airway. Make sure nothing is obstructing the airway.
If your dog is wiggling around and breathing, do they need CPR?
No, but you might still have to take them to the vet for the other odd symptoms they are experiencing

If your dog responds in any way while you are pulling out their tongue and checking there air way, do they still need CPR?
No, the dog will not need CPR.

the CPR push point
How deep should you push when doing chest compressions?
