Andy is locked into the hole and when Andy tries to insist on how immoral the money laundering is but Norton threatens to take away his security and to toss him with the sodomites. Andy is completely broken and even stays in the dark when talking to Red

Red says he's institutionalised like Brooks which darkens the GVV. However it's brightened when he reunites with Andy

Andy's escape

The revelation that Andy has been tunneling for years brightens the GVV as he escapes without violence and it shows his determination. The scene in the rain where he's triumphant is the most uplifting scene in the film. This greatly brightens the G.V.V

Aftermath of the escape

Andy exposing Hadley and The Warden brightens the G.V.V. The fact that he risked staying in Maine for a bit longer to leave money and instructions for Red which along with their reunion and the fact that he saved Red from a fate like Brook's brightens the G.V.V
