What are all the phases of a plot plan in order?
1. Exposition
2. Complication
3. Crisis & Climax
4. Resolution
Define “Exposition”:
the story’s introduction in which background information is given for the plot’s development
Define “Complication”:
The point at which major conflicts or problems are presented; the rising action of drama.
Define “Crisis”:
the moment of high tension in a story, just before the turning point, when a decision has to be made that will determine the story’s outcome.
Define “climax”:
The turning point, the action or decision that determines the outcome. Sometimes, the crisis and climax appear to be at the same moment
Define “Resolution”:
the final stage or unraveling of the plot, usually very brief. Here, the tension is over, and unanswered questions may be explained.
What is a Logline?
A one sentence that sums up the movie
Ex: “One thousand brides. One hundred million dollars. Jimmy Shannon is about to discover the true value of love”
What is a Tag line?
A short, catchy phrase (3-10 words) used as a hook.
Ex: “In space nobody can hear you scream”- Alien 1979
What is a Premise?
A shorthand way of referring to the essence of the story idea-can be summed up in a phrase or a few sentences (up to a short paragraph)
