African union
an organization that promotes unity, peace, and economic cooperation among African countries.
ex: promoting regional cooperations is an example because it promotes unity among African countries

A boundary that was created before the cultural landscape emerged.
ex: the 49th parallel between the U.S. and Canada is an example because it separated the two countries.
arctic council
An intergovernmental forum promoting cooperation in the Arctic region.
ex: supranational organizations is an example because it is an intergovernmental organization
ASEAN
Association of Southeast Asian Nations- a regional organization that promotes political and economic cooperation, peace, and stability among Southeast Asian countries.
autonomous region
A region that has a degree of self-governance, or autonomy, from a larger political entity.
ex: Scotland in the UK is an example because it is self-governed parting from Great Britian and Wales
berlin conference
A meeting in 1884-1885 where European nations negotiated and formalized their colonial claims in Africa.
ex: superimposed boundaries is an example because it is where European powers carved Africa into colonies without African input.
centrigugal force
A force that divides people and countries.
Hutu/Tutsi in Rwanda is an example because the two are divided in the country

A force that unites people and countries.
ex: Japanese in Japan is an example because they only speak that language there.

A strategic narrow route providing passage through or to another region.
colonialism
The practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country, occupying it with settlers, and exploiting it economically.
