Why can Kappa Sigma be traced to Bologna, Italy? 

Because of the corrupt governor of Bologna (Baldassare Cossa), students at the University of Bologna who were involved in the secret society had to use secret words and signs for protection against Cossa. These words and signs became the basis for the organization.
