What is blood pressure?
the pressure of blood on the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps blood around the body.
What is systolic BP?
arterial pressure in heart contractions. This is the first number written in BP measurements.
What is diastolic BP?
Arterial pressure when the heart fills with blood as it relaxes. This is the 2nd number in BP measurements.
What is the normal BP range?
Systolic less than 120
Diastolic less than 80
What is the elevated BP range?
Systolic 120-129
Diastolic less than 80
What is the range for Stage 1 HTN?
Systolic 130-139
Diastolic 80-89
What is the range for Stage 2 HTN?
Systolic 140 or higher
Diastolic 90 or higher
What is the range for hypertensive crisis?
Systolic more than 180
Diastolic more than 120
What is isolated systolic hypertension?
Only the systolic BP is in a hypertensive state, whereas the diastolic is normal
