Types of RNA

messenger RNA (mRNA)

A type of RNA that carries genetic information of specific amino acids from DNA to the ribosome, where proteins are synthesized.

transfer RNA (tRNA)

A type of RNA that transports specific amino acids to the ribosome during protein synthesis, matching them to the coded messages in mRNA.

Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)

A type of RNA that forms the core of ribosome's structure and stabilizes ribosome, catalyzes protein synthesis by creating binding site for mRNA and tRNA

Primary transcript

The initial RNA strand synthesized from a DNA template during transcription, which undergoes processing to become mature mRNA, tRNA or rRNA. Can also catalyze its own introns

small nuclear RNA snRNA

A type of RNA int the spliceosome involved in the splicing of pre-mRNA in the nucleus, through catalytic and structural roles.
