Muscle Tissue
A type of primary tissue that is highly cellular, well vascularized, and responsible for movement.
Skeletal Muscle
A type of muscle attached to bones, characterized by striations and voluntary control.
Cardiac Muscle
Muscle found in the heart, striated and under involuntary control.
Smooth Muscle
Muscle found in the walls of hollow organs and tubes, non-striated and involuntary.
Myofibers
Muscle cells in skeletal muscle that are multinucleated and striated.
Intercalated Discs
Special junctions between cardiac muscle cells that allow for synchronized contraction.
Histology
The study of the microscopic structure of tissues.
Neurons
Nerve cells that transmit information via action potentials.
Neuroglia
Supporting cells in the nervous system that nourish and protect neurons.
Hypertrophy
The increase in muscle size due to exercise and use.
Atrophy
The decrease in muscle size due to disuse or aging.
