Compare the character progression of Beatrice Prior in Roth’s Divergent and Jerry in “Lessing’s Through the Tunnel”. How do both of these characters change over the course of their story?
they both feel that they need to prove themselves. Jerry needs to prove that he can hold his breath as long as the group of boys, and tris needs to prove that she isn’t a “stiff” and she fits in with the dauntless

tris: fitting in even though shes divergent+ figuring out that she does belong in dauntless

jerry: thinks he needs to hold his breath to be like the group of boys + figures out that he doesnt need to be as good as them.

tris and Hercules are heroes because of the actions that they perform. Tris because of being the first jumper, and because she let four throw knives at her. Hercules because of the twelve labors he offered to do.
