Salt x Cardiovascular disease
Salt contains high levels of sodium, so high intake can increase blood volume and contribute to hypertension. This forces to heart to work harder leading to heart attack or stroke (Cardiovascular disease)
Salt x Osteoperosis
Salt contains high levels of sodium. When excess sodium is filtered through the kidneys, calcium is often removed and excreted through urine, leading to the demineralisation of bones and thus osteoporosis.
Sugar x Overweight and obesity
When sugar is consumed in excess, it begins to be stored as adipose (fat) tissue. Over time this can lead to weight gain and overweight and obesity.
Dental carries and dental disease
Sugars provide a food source for bacteria in the mouth. These bacteria produce acids that can contribute to the decay of tooth enamel, if left untreated, this can lead to periodontitis.
