Microscope
device that produces magnified images of structures that are too small to see with the unaided eye

Stage
Where the slide is placed

Light source
Light used under the stage to shine up through the slide and assist in observing what is on the slide.

Course Adjustment
Large knob used to move the stage up and down for focusing on low and middle power.

Fine Adjustment
the small knob which moves the body tube to produce small changes in focus.

Diaphragm
Controls the amount of light passing through the opening of the stage

Base
The bottom of the microscope that supports the microscope.

Nose Piece
hold the objective lenses and allows them to be changed

Eye Piece
the part you look at with your eye (10x magnification)

Objective Lens
The lens of a compound microscope closest to the object; common powers are 4x, 10x, 40x, and 100x

Arm
Supports the body tube and connects it to the base

Stage Clips
These are used to hold a slide in place on the stage
