DMSO enhances absorption of glucocorticoids like fluocinolone.

Reduces inflammation associated with irritation.

What components are in broad-spectrum topical antibiotics for otic use?

Aminoglycoside, glucocorticoid, antifungal, antiparasitic.

What must be intact before using topical aminoglycoside antibiotics in the ear?

The tympanic membrane.

Why must the tympanic membrane be intact before using aminoglycosides?

Aminoglycosides are ototoxic.

What are examples of topical antibiotic treatments for otic use?

Gentamicin (Otomax), Neomycin (Tresaderm), Enrofloxacin (Baytril Otic).

Fluoroquinolone + antifungal (silver sulfadiazine).
