Describe or draw attention to (a product, service, or event) in a public medium in order to promote sales or attendance.

Better Business Bureau(BBB)

a private organization that provides the public with information on businesses and charities. It also handles consumer complaints about firms. The nonprofit bureau has developed a rating system for businesses based on a scale of A+ to F.

Consumer goods

Goods and services that are used for current consumption.

Federal Trade Commission

an independent agency of the United States government whose principal mission is the enforcement of civil antitrust law and the promotion of consumer protection.

Fraud

Intentional and deliberate misrepresentation of information in violation of laws and regulations.

Identity Theft

A form of stealing that results in someone gaining access to another person’s personal information.

Influencer

A person with the ability to influence potential buyers of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media.

Personally Identifiable Information

Information that, when used alone or with other relevant data, can identify an individual.

Pyramid Scheme

a form of investment (illegal in the US and elsewhere) in which each paying participant recruits two further participants, with returns being given to early participants using money contributed by later ones.

Ponzi schemes

a form of fraud in which belief in the success of a nonexistent enterprise is fostered by the payment of a quick returns to the first investors from money invested by later investors.

Telemarketing

the direct marketing of goods or services to potential customers over the telephone or the internet.

Warranty

A guarantee to a consumer that promises a product or service will perform as intended.

Waste

the unavoidable material that remains after something has been consumed or produced.
