destarch plant like before
bring plant back into light
enclose one leaf on the destarched potted plant in a tube or transparent bag containing potassium hydroxide.
leave the plant in daylight for several hours
remove this leaf from the plant and remove a second leaf that has been in the air.
test both leaves for starch like before
expected results
there is no starch in the leaf from the container without carbon dioxide (orange/brown)
there is starch in the leaf that was in the air (blue/black)
what does the potassium hydroxide do?
it absorbs the carbon dioxide so that there is no carbon dioxide in the air around the leaf.
simple memorade
CO2 = starch
no CO2 = no starch
