The Freedoms of the Air

First Freedom

The right or privilege granted by one State to another State or States to fly across its territory without landing

Second Freedom

The right or privilege granted by one State to another State or States to land in its territory for non-traffic purposes

Third Freedom

The right or privilege granted by one State to another State to deliver passengers or cargoes to another State coming from the home State of the carrier

Fourth Freedom

The right or privilege granted by one State to another State to deliver passengers or cargoes from another State destined for the home State of the carrier

Fifth Freedom

The right or privilege granted by one State to another State to take passengers or cargoes from its home country; deposit them at a destination (A); and then pick-up and carry passengers or cargoes from destination (A) onto another international destination (B)

Sixth Freedom

The right or privilege of transporting passengers or cargo between two foreign States (A and B), provided that the aircraft touches down in the airline’s home country

Seventh Freedom

The right or privilege granted by one State to another State to carry on flights that originate in a foreign country and deposit the passengers or cargoes at another international destination, by-passing its home country

Eighth Freedom

The right or privilege of carrying passengers or cargoes from one point in the territory of a country to another point within the same country on a flight that originates in the aircraft’s home country

CABOTAGE

Ninth Freedom

The right or privilege of an aircraft from a particular country to originate a flight in a foreign State and then transport passengers or cargoes from one point to another point within the foreign State
