Amlodipine/Norvasc

CCB

• Not first line

• BP med and top 50, but Cardura & a blockers work better in AAM

• CAN CAUSE SWELLING

Amoxicillin/Amoxil & Ampicillin

Penicillin

• Normally Dentists prescribe this and some STDs

• Most people aren’t actually allergic, only DNU in anaphylaxis - ALWAYS DOCUMENT when confirming allergy

• Lesser used for infections

Anastrozole/Arimidex

• Chemo Drug - Usually Breast Cancer

• Aromatase Inhibitor - Used in Hormone positive Cancers

• Always Look at fam history—- If there is AVOID Estrogen

Aripriprazole/Abilify

2nd gen Anti-psych

• basically makes other anti-psychs work better

• Medicaid will pay

• Atypical anti-psych

Asenapine/Saphris

Uncommon anti-psych

Aspirin

• Daily maintenance anti-clotting usually in heart-issues

• lotta side effects unfortunately

• uncoated can help in heart attacks- comparable to Plavix

Atenolol/Tenormin

Cardio-selective BB

• Cheap and Easy babay

• Usually prescribed post MI

• Slows heart

• Better for lung issues w/ heart issues

Atomoxetine/Stritera

ADD/ADHD

• Cheap now

• Not the most effective but not controlled

• used to be rarer but covid gave it a comeback

Atorvastatin/Lipitor

HMGCoA Red Inhibitor

• stabilizes plaque to stay on the wall and smooth to the wall- reduce MI

• Causes aches & pains in biggest muscles b/c thats where biggest fat deposits- give CoEnzymeQ10 for a day before going back on statin

• Crestor can cause urinating problems, more associated with cramps, and dimentia/memory problems b/c crosses brain barrier

• kinda overprescribed

• If you’ve had a MI you’re on a statin

Azithromycin/Zithromax

Macrolide

• One of the easiest macrolide to dispense

• Very safe - not associated w/ probs of other macrolides

• HAve to eat or causes BAD cramps

• stays in your system over a week after

• will treat STDs

• Effective

Acetazolamide/Diamox

• For Glaucoma & eye issues

• used to be a diuretic- not effective comparatively now

Acyclovir/Zovirax

• Herpes antiviral 1 & 2

• Rarely used for non herpes sickness

Netupitant/Palonosetron/ Akynzeo

• Nausea in Chemotherapy

• rarely used

Alendronate sodium/ Fosamax

Bisphosphonate - Osteoporosis txt

• Used to be prescribed like crazy to prevent osteoporosis in women

• Found not to work with bone density b/c osteoclasts just become more active

Aliskiren / Tekturna

THE BP med for T2DM - ARB

• If you cant take an ARB prolly gonna be on Diltiazem

Alfuzosin / Uroxatral

a Blocker for BPH

• Dec BP —> causes Syncope

• Stand up slow

• Can make you dizzy when you pee

Allopurinol/Zyloprim

Gout— uric acid lowering

PREVENTS GOUT, not txt for attacks

Alprazolam / Xanax

Benzodiazepine

• Sympt Anxiety & Sleep due to quick onset & long action

• Start low and titrate as SLOW as possible

• Can (& will) get a tolerance- one of the most abused benzo on the market

Amatadine/Sematrail

Parkinsons OR Antiviral - type A flu

Dopamine reuptake inhibitor

Amiodarone/Cordarone or Pacerone

Anti-Arrythmic

• Prodrug = Moltac and its PRICEY

• Usually A fib pts

• Be CAREFUL with blood thinners cause amiodarone can already thin your blood or amplify the effect
