-Rinne test (mastoid process): tuning fork-should hear equally. If not-->hearing loss
Nose: focused exam (inspection)
-external nares: asymmetry, deformity
-internal nares (with otoscope): swelling, turbinates, septal deviation, perforation, discharge, blood, crusting, ulcers, polyps

Cancer

-unexplained wt chng (+/- 10% in 4 wks)
-frequent coughing
-chng in voice or hoarseness
-ear pain or trouble hearing
-headaches
Common risk factors for head and neck cancer
-alcohol abuse
-epstein-barr virus infection
-excessive sunlight
-HPV
-tobacco use
pharyngitis
-bacterial: group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus, tx with antibiotics to prevent rheumatic fever
-viral and allergic are self-limiting
Centor criteria
-hx of fever over 100.3
-tonsillar exudates
-absence of cough
-tender anterior cervical lymphadenopathy
Rapid strep test done for adults with _____out of 4 positive centor criteria, unless positive tonsillar exudates

When are antibiotics given to adults suspected of having strep?
-only with a positive rapid test
