the process in which an author creates vivid, believable characters in a work of art. this may be done in a variety of ways
Hyperbole
extreme exaggeration used to acheive an effect
metaphor
a comparison between to wunlike things without using like or as. metaphors assert the identity of dissimilar things
simile
a comparison usually using like or as. or two essentialy disimilar things.
Imagery
the forming of mental images, figures or liknesses of things. it is also the use of language to represent actions, persons, objects, and ideas descriptively. This means encompassing the senses also , rather than just forming a mental picture.
personification
a figure of speech that gives human qualities to abstract ideas, animal, and inanimate objects
figurative language
a technique in writing in which the author temporarily interrupts= the order, construction, or meaninb of the writing for a particular effect. This interruption takes the form of one or more figures of speech such as hyperbole, irony, or simile.
first person point of view
is told by the character and offers opinions about other characters or things that differ from the author. uses I or me
third person point of view
presents the events of the story from out side of any characters perception, this is not influenced by any characters perception. uses they he or she
point of view
the narrative perspective that a peice of writing is presented to the reader.
mood
the prevailing emotion of a work or of the author in his or her creation of the work. the mood is not always expected base on its subject matter
Tone
the authors attitude towards the reader oor the people, places, and events in a work as revealed by the elements of the authors style
Motif
a recurring theme, image, or idea
theme
the central meaning of the text. not one big idea. a sentance or statment
setting
the time and place in which the action of a narrative takes place.
