Columbian Exchange

• Developed For La Navidad (permanent settlement with 1000+ people)

• Diseases from the old world invaded the new world wiping out a lot of natives

Aztecs

• Spoke Nahuatl

• Very Advanced

• People didn’t like them for lots of reasons

Tenochtitlan

• Very large city with around 200,000 people

• Very Advanced architecture and agriculture

Hernan Cortez

• Wants to conquer the Aztecs

• Starts journey in Cuba

• Has a fleet of 600 troops, 200 natives, animals, and muskets

• Arrives in Tenochtitlan and wipes out a lot of the city because of small pox

Francisco Pizzaro

• Conquered the Inca (Inca was loaded)

• Took over Inca quick due to disease and took the riches to Spain

Narvaez

• Wanted to conquer South Coast of America

• Washed up near Galveston after tragedies

Cabeza de Vaca

• Lands in Corpus Christi and encounters Coahuiltecans, becomes enslaved —> eventually becomes one of them

Estevanico

• Lands in Corpus Christi and encounters Coahuiltecans, becomes enslaved —> eventually becomes one of them

• Eventually tries to find the city of gold but gets killed

Francisco Vazquez de Coronado

• Launched a military expedition to find riches

• Had a force of 370 soldiers with 1000 natives

• Ended up in the high plains of west Texas, later traveled to Kansas and ended in Oklahoma

• Only found Civlizations, no gold

De Soto

• Traveled throughout Southeast America

• Accompanied Pizzarro through Incan conquest

• Started conquest in Florida but had violent confrontations with Natives and pillaged villages

Juan de Onate

• Traveled from North Mexico into New Mexico

• Established first permanent Settlement

• Acoma Massacre - Spanish forces brutally retaliated against the Acoma Pueblo, group of New Mexico People

Don Pedro Romero

• Financed Spanish Missions

• Rich from mining

• Cousin was in charge of missions but died in the burning of a mission

Charles III and Rubi

• No more French threat so they find uses for the missions

• Lots of poverty in East Texas so they close the missions

• Found Nacogdoches, important Texas Settlement

La Salle

• Sees wealth coming from Canada and wants to be apart of it

• Setup a trading post in Minnesota/Michigan

• Wanted to setup a colony near the Mississippi River but missed and set it up in South Texas

• The colony in Texas failed and was then killed by his own men
