Universe
Everything ever, including all of space and time
Galaxy
A system of millions or billions of stars, along with gas and dust, held together by gravitational attraction
Milky Way
the galaxy we live in
Solar System
a set of space objects that includes a star and everything that orbits that star
Planet
large object that circles around the sun or any other star
Terrestrial Planets
rockey planets, smallest in SS ( Mercury,Venus,Earth, and Mars)
Gas Giants
made of gas and dust, largest in SS (jupiter and saturn)
Ice Giants
made of gas but less than gas giants, bigger then terrestial planets.
Moon
a object thats natural and moves around another object thats natural
Meteoroids
objects in space that range from dust grains to small astroids. (space rocks)
Meteors
a meteroid that enters earths atmosphere at a high speed and then burns up. (shooting stars)
Meteorite
a meteriod that survives a trip through the atmosphere and hits the ground
Astroid
A rocky object that orbits the sun and has an average size between a meteoroid and a planet.
Comet
a rock thats icy and lets off dust and and gas as it flies through space (haleys)
star
any massive self-luminous celestial body of gas that shines by radiation derived from its interenal energy source and is held in a ball by its on gravity
sun
the star in the middle of our solar system
Constellation
a group of stars in the sky that form specific patterns from where you see them
Order of solar system
MVEMJSUN
Big Bang
When a small atom exploded in the middle of space creating the universe and everything ever.
Equinox
When day and night is equal (spring and fall)
Solstice
winter is longest night summer is longest day.
How planets stay in orbit
gravitational pull from the sun/star. The planet it moving straight but being pulled back.
What cause earths seasons
when a planet is faced towards the sun vs. away from the sun
Earths Axis
a straight line through the middle of earth that is tilted. Spins around the axis.
Rotate
when planets spin around there axis and move.
Revolve
When planets revolve in a oval shape around the sun.
