Anaerobic Chamber / Glove Box

1. Plates are put into the exchange chamber

2. Chamber is flooded with N2 and mixed gases

3. Move the plates into main chamber

Gas-Pak Anaerobe Jar

Envelope system that removes O2 by producing H2 and CO2

• Requires 2 hours for anaerobic conditions

• Uses Palladium catalyst, which is inactivated by water

• Indicator system:

  • Methylene blue

    • White = anaerobic

    • Blue = aerobic

  • Resazurin

    • Clear = anaerobic

    • Pink = aerobic

• Doesn’t use catalysts or water

• Must put into jar within 1 minute

  • O2 is quickly absorbed w/ formation of CO2
