Executive Office of the White House

Carries out most constitutional duties, provides support staff for the federal bureaucracy, overseen by chief of staff

Office of Management and Budget

The office that prepares the president's annual budget proposal, reviews the budget and programs of the executive departments, supplies economic for forecasts, and conducts detailed analysis of proposed bills and agency rules

National Security Council

A link between the president's key foreign and military advisers and the president. Its members consist of the president, vice president, and the secretaries of state and defense, plus other informal members.

National Economic Council

Advises the President on U.S. and global economic policy.

White House Staff

Operates the west wing(offices), most influential to the president because of daily contact, consists of many aid and advisors

Chief of Staff

The person who is named to direct the White House Office and advise the president

Press Secretary

The individual charged with interacting and communicating with journalists on a daily basis

Bully Pulpit

Position that gives one the ability to command tension/audiences to follow

Cold War

1946-1991; stop the spread of communism, military actions alliance building, monetary aid, response to soviet aggression at end of WW, next tone for 8 future presidents

New Deal

Franklin Roosevelt's plan for economic recovering during the great depression, the era for cooperative federalism

Great Society

A domestic program that instituted federally sponsored programs designed to reduce poverty and racial injustice

Honeymoon Period

6-9 months, a time period after a candidate has won office where ratings are higher

Imperial Presidency

the president is the head of state of a geographical, military and economic superpower, has broad executive power and is advised by a bureaucratic staff akin to a classical imperial court.
