House of Representatives
The lower chamber of the United States Congress, consisting of representatives elected to serve two-year terms.
Impeachment
The process by which a sitting president or other federal officials can be charged with misconduct and potentially removed from office.
Speaker of the House
The presiding officer of the House of Representatives, responsible for overseeing House proceedings and maintaining order.
Majority Leader
The party leader elected by the majority party in the House or Senate, responsible for overseeing the party's legislative agenda.
Minority Leader
The party leader elected by the minority party in the House or Senate, responsible for representing the minority's interests.
Whip
A party official in Congress responsible for ensuring party discipline and mobilizing votes.
Filibuster
A tactic used in the Senate to prolong debate and delay or prevent a vote on a bill.
Cloture
A procedure to end a filibuster and bring a debate to a close, requiring a supermajority vote.
Senate
The upper chamber of the United States Congress, consisting of senators serving six-year terms.
Presidential Appointment Approval
The Senate's responsibility to confirm or reject presidential nominations for federal positions.
Committee
A group within Congress that is established to review legislation, conduct hearings, and oversee executive actions.
Enumerated Powers
Specific powers granted to Congress by the Constitution, including the ability to tax, declare war, and regulate commerce.
Implied Powers
Powers not explicitly listed in the Constitution but inferred from the enumerated powers, allowing Congress to take actions necessary to execute its responsibilities.
