What is an aim?
a general statement that describes the purpose of the study
What is a hypothesis?
A prediction and testable statement that clearly states the relationship between two variables
what are the two types of variables?
Independent and Dependent
What does a hypothesis do?
test the relationship between 2 variables
What is operationalising?
to clearly specify the set of behaviours and conditions that are being manipulated or measured
What happens to ppts in the experimental group?
They experience the manipulated IV, behaviour is measured/observed to see if manipulation has effect on DV
What are directional hypotheses?
Hypothese that state the expected direction, e.g …. will have a higer …. than …..
What is a non directional hypotheses?
Hypotheses that has no direction, predicts there will be a difference between 2 conditions
Why would researchers adapt non/ directional hypotheses ?
Directional - idea which way results will go
Non-directional- we can’t predict how results will go
