Microbial Diversity
The variety of microorganisms, including bacteria, archaea, fungi, protozoa, and viruses.
Prokaryotes
Single-celled organisms that lack a nucleus, including bacteria and archaea.
Eukaryotes
Organisms whose cells contain a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles, including fungi, protozoa, and plants.
Extremophiles
Microorganisms that thrive in extreme environments, such as extreme temperatures or salinity.
Halophiles
Archaea that live in highly saline environments.
Thermophiles
Organisms that can survive at high temperatures, typically above 45 °C.
Methanogens
Anaerobic archaea that produce methane as a byproduct of energy metabolism.
Mycorrhizae
Symbiotic relationships between fungi and plant roots, enhancing nutrient absorption.
Chitin
A tough, protective polysaccharide that makes up the cell walls of fungi.
Ciliates
A group of protozoans characterized by the presence of hair-like structures called cilia.
