Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures)
The first part of the Bible, focusing on the covenant between God and the people of Israel.
New Testament (Christian Scriptures)
The second part of the Bible, focusing on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Pentateuch
The first five books of the Hebrew Scriptures (Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy), also known as the Torah.
Contextual Reading
Interpretation that considers culture, language, and historical background to understand meaning.
Literal Reading
Word-for-word interpretation that assumes everything happened exactly as written.
Covenant
A solemn agreement between God and people.
Patriarch
A founding father of a faith or nation.
Natural Law
Moral principles in nature that guide us to do good.
Sin
Turning away from God’s will.
Mortal Sin
Serious sin that breaks the relationship with God.
Venial Sin
Lesser sin that damages but doesn't destroy the relationship with God.
Grace
God’s free gift of love, helps us live holy lives.
Forgiveness
Letting go of resentment.
Reconciliation
Restoring relationship through confession and forgiveness.
Conversion
A turning back to God.
Call Story
When God calls someone to a mission.
Moral Decision
Choosing between right and wrong based on values and conscience.
Justice
Treating others fairly and with respect; giving people what they are owed by dignity.
