Centrioles
Cylindrical structures involved in the process of cell division.
Centrosome
An organelle that serves as the main microtubule organizing center.
Nucleus
The membrane-bound organelle that contains the cell's genetic material.
Nucleolus
A dense region within the nucleus where ribosome production occurs.
Interphase: G₁
The first phase of interphase where the cell undergoes metabolic activity and growth.
Chromosomes
Structures within the cell that are made up of DNA and proteins, containing genetic information.
Mitosis: Prophase
The stage in mitosis where chromosomes condense and the nucleolus disappears.
Metaphase plate
The imaginary line where chromosomes align before being separated.
Cleavage furrow
The indentation that begins the process of cytokinesis in animal cells.
Cytokinesis
The final process of cell division where the cytoplasm divides to form two daughter cells.
Anaphase
The stage of mitosis where sister chromatids are pulled apart toward opposite sides of the cell.
Telophase
The stage of mitosis where the nuclear envelope re-forms around the daughter chromosomes.
Spindle fibers
Microtubules that pull chromosomes apart during cell division.
Kinetochores
Protein structures on chromosomes where spindle fibers attach during mitosis.
Nuclear membrane
The double membrane surrounding the nucleus, which disintegrates during mitosis.
