Magnetic Particle Inspection
A method used on ferrous materials where magnetization reveals surface or near-surface discontinuities.
Electromotive Force
The force that causes electrons to move through a conductor.
Electric Current
The movement of electrons along a conductor, resulting directly from electromotive force. It flows from the negative to the positive terminal.
Ampere (Amps)
The unit of measure for electric current, representing the rate at which electrons pass a given point in a conductor.
Magnetic Lines of Force
Aligned at right angles (90°) to the direction of electric current flow; the direction can be controlled by controlling the electric current.
Magnetic Permeability
The ease with which a ferromagnetic part is magnetized by a magnetic field.
Retentivity
The ability of a material to remain magnetized after the magnetizing force is removed.
