NAM (Nautical air miles)
NAM = (NGM x TAS) / GS
NGM (Nautical ground miles)
NGM = (NAM x GS) / TAS
As altitude increases. what happens to the NAM and NGM
As altitude increases, the air distance increases (because it represents the distance traveled through an air mass, and the air becomes less dense at higher altitudes which means more distance traveled)
When is the highest NAM and NGM difference?
Headwind at high altitude
Speed Factor
Speed Factor = TAS / 60
Is the speed of the aircraft through the air mass measured in NAM per Minute
WCA
XWC / SF
Wind Correction Angle
Wind Angle more than 90°
If the wind angle is more than 90°, the wind must be behind the aircraft. To calculate the wind angle from the tail, subtract this from 180°
Maximum Drift
Maximum Drift = Wind Speed / SF
