Explain what a theoretical chi squared (χ 2) distribution is for a Chi-square Test of independence in the context of the research question.
If I were to run a chi-square test of independence (with these two variables: psychotherapy treatment approach by outcome and with the same sample size (40) an infinite number of times, a distribution of chi-square tests of independence would form.
Describe where the null hypothesis fits within the χ 2-distribution and explain what a null hypothesis would mean in the context of this research question?
The χ 2 value or statistic for the null hypothesis would be zero or right in the center of the far left of the chi squared (χ 2) distribution (χ 2 = 0). This would mean no difference between the expected independence (same proportion of outcome to therapy for all four groups) and the actual results (whatever those results are.
