belaying

the technique people use in climbing to suspend a climber or prevent a climber from falling to the ground

back-up belay

a secondary belayer providing additional support to the primary belayer

anchor

an anchor, which is used if there is a significant weight differential between the climber and the belayer

belay stance

body position assumed to stay balanced while partner is climbing. feet should be apart, knees slightly flexed, one foot slightly forward of the other, depending on which hand is up on the belay rope.

harness

Strap device that is attached to the lower torso which can be hooked into a belaying system

carabiner

a oblong metal ring with a spring clip used in climbing to attach a running tope to a sheriff, or other equipment

ATC

A metal device that works as a pulley when belaying

super 8 knot

the knot used to tie the climbing rope to the carabiner

helmet

specially designed headwear for climbing

rope

specially designed dynamic rope for climbing, it has some stretch

spotting
