• Broad spectrum

• Treats both gram - & + bacteria

• Urinary, respiratory, GI tract infections, bone, joint, skin, soft tissue infections, pneumonia, & gonorrhea

• Prevention of Anthrax if spores are inhaled

complications

• GI upset:

• Achilles tendon rupture

• Suprainfection

• Photosensitivity

contraindications

• Children under 18

• Use with caution in older adults who have cardiovascular

drug to drug interactions

• Antacids & multivitamin/mineral supplements

• Can increase serum theophylline levels

• Can increase serum levels of warfarin

education

• PO & IV 

• May need to lower dose with kidney issues

• IV: administer slowly

• Push PO fluids

• Complete entire course of therapy
