World Wide Web (WWW)
A system of interlinked documents and resources connected via the Internet, accessible with a web browser.
Tim Berners-Lee (1989 proposal)
British scientist at CERN who proposed the World Wide Web.
WorldWideWeb/Nexus browser (1990)
First web browser and web server; later renamed Nexus.
Mosaic browser (1993)
Browser that popularized the Web to the public.
Modern Web
Today billions of websites exist, supporting multimedia, interactivity, and e-commerce.
Website
A collection of related web pages under a domain.
Web Page
A single document on the Web, usually written in HTML.
Server
A computer that stores and delivers web pages to users.
Client
The device (computer or phone) that requests web pages.
HTML
HyperText Markup Language, the standard language for creating web pages.
HTTP/HTTPS
Protocols used to transfer web pages between servers and clients.
Web browser
Software used to access and view websites (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Edge).
URL
Uniform Resource Locator, the address of a web resource.
URL parts
Protocol, Domain name, Path.
Hyperlink
A clickable element that directs you to another page, file, or resource.
Search Engine
A tool that helps you find websites or information online by typing keywords.
Crawling
The process of scanning the web for pages by search engines.
Indexing
Storing and organizing the found pages in a search engine's index.
Ranking
Showing search results in order of relevance.
