It is one of the areas that The movement has had the most impact on and is also their main focus.

Police brutality is, like most racism issues in the U.S. today, a systemic issue.

which means that some laws and parts of the criminal justice system target Black communities. For example, loopholes in laws that makes it easier for police to kill or hurt black people without getting convicted or facing any real consequences.

  • leading to higher rates of police violence, and incarceration.

  • Eric Garner & George Floyd

For example, a very known case of this brutality was George Floid, who was murdered by a police officer during an arrest. (2020)

  • This case caused a big rise in the BLM movement. And was almost identical to Eric Garner's case in (2014), both got well know for the phrase “i cant breathe”

  • The killing of Gorge Floyd also led to chokehold ban in several states (24)

When it comes to Progress and influence:

BLM has had big influence mostly by increasing awareness and media coverage of systemic racism and police brutality,wich has helped educate many about these injustices issues. 


The movement has also encouraged millions of people to join protests and activism, and in that way put pressure on police and government to address the issues and push for new police reforms.

BLM's work, in particular, has led to changes such as the enforcement of body cameras, more control of how much force police are allowed to use , and specifically the banning of chokeholds in some areas.  (like I mention before)

And it had a big global effect and is well known internationally and had protests in multiple different countries.

  • for example, the first BLM demonstrations in Denmark was held in 2016.

Of course its a little different In Denmark when in comes to racism as it is not as critical of a problem and a lot of it is like hidden or excused with humor, like with the term “hygge racisme”

  • A lot of Racismin Denmark is also more directed at people with middle eastern ethnicity

There are a lot of different approaches to stopping racism.

laws is one of the key ways to do it. (Prevents it from becoming part of society’s norm) as I talked about before

But Social media is also a great way to have an influence (BLM good at)

  • Another way is in sports, where famous players or teams take a knee or have worn shirts with BLM on them to show suport

So just to summen up, Racism worldwide but especially in America is still a big issue

and The movement BLM has been one of the most impactful movements in terms of getting attention to the problem

Whith that said they have also received criticism for not being clear about the use of many donations they get. Many also argue that they haven't done enough like on-ground action, by giving back to the community.

I think BLM is a great example of how people can get together and make a difference.

Where people can show support in many different ways.
