Habituation
A learning process in which an organism decreases or ceases its responses to a stimulus after repeated exposure that is not accompanied by any positive or negative reinforcement.
Dishabituation
The restoration of a response to a stimulus after the organism has become habituated, typically when a new stimulus is introduced.
Conditioned Stimulus
In classical conditioning, a conditioned stimulus is a previously neutral stimulus that, after being paired with an unconditioned stimulus, elicits a conditioned response.
Unconditioned Stimulus
A stimulus that naturally and automatically triggers a response without prior learning or conditioning.
Second Order Conditioning
A learning process in which a previously conditioned stimulus is paired with a new neutral stimulus, creating a conditioned response to the new stimulus.
Discrimination
The ability to distinguish between different stimuli, responding only to the conditioned stimulus and not to similar stimuli.
Spontaneous Recovery
The reappearance of a conditioned response after a pause following extinction, indicating that the learned behavior was not completely forgotten.
Operant Conditioning
A learning process in which behaviors are modified through rewards or punishments, influencing the likelihood of the behavior being repeated.
Classical Conditioning
A learning process where a neutral stimulus becomes associated with a meaningful stimulus, leading to a learned response.
Stimulus
Any object or event that influences behavior or triggers a response in an organism.
