Smaller compared to later counterparts-Decorated: adding new features (handles, spouts, knobs)-Ompholos Base - not flat but indented a little bit

EBI SPOUTED VESSELS TEA POTS
- V-neck on top of rounded body (unlike Wadi-Rabah culture which had rounded bowl on top of rounded body)

EBI HIGH HANDLED CUP (mickey Mouse ears)

PUB Painted Pottery
-White Clay or White Slip with Red Painted Lines/ Bands-Twin-vessels-L. Stager theorized style could be related to basketry

PUC Grey Burnished EBI
Limited typology-A lot of Chalices and V shaped-Some V-shaped have Carination- Rope plastic additions- decorative handles- Grey & Burnished

BAND SLIP/GRAIN WASH “PUD”
EBIB -Similar to PUB but sloppier paint job-Uneven, spread out paint, as if done w/ a branch-Style brought back in EBIII-On domestic vessels (mostly jars) and not usually on burial pottery

-FLAGSHIP Vessel of the Early Bronze Age especially with markings-Multipurpose (storage, cooking, prep)-Round Base more for cooking-Flat Base more common EBI

HOLEMOUTH JARS W/ EB POT MARKS EBII
-Became common in Early Bronze II-III-Possibly to indicate contents/producer-Canaanites were familiar w/ writing (Mesopotamia and Egypt) but it was an illiterate society - starting to use symbols-Marks are made pre-fire

PITHOS W/ MUSHROOM RIM EBII
-Typical storage jar (pithos) has s shaped rim = mushroom rim-Rope decoration around shoulder

BOWL JUGS EBII
- Bowls w/ a handle as if it were a jug

EB II-III Red Slip
-Red Slip and burnished in EB II and III-Particularly on jugs and juglets and sometimes smaller jars-Handle is smaller than mickey mouse

-Knob handles on shoulder-Pithoi have rope decor around shoulder-Ledge Handles-Mushroom style rims-Rounded elongated body w/ FLAT BASE (MB bases become pointed)

- SIGNATURE to EB AGE (a little in IB gone by MB AGE)- Typically on Jars- Usually horizontal attached at middle of vessel TYPES: -Plain - flat piece attached to vessel-Wavy - pressed in-Wavy & Indented - folded in

METALLIC WARE (South Levantine Metallic Ware) EBII
EB II (declines EB III)-Mass produced-Metallic sound -Fired at high temp and is high quality (thinner)-One clay source (Hermon Mts)-Makes up 50-80% of n. assemblages in EBII -PATTERN COMBING (red slip and very little painting-Only type not made metallic style is Cooking

ABYDOS WARE
-JUGS & JARS = transport vessels coming from Israel into Egypt-Specifically found in Royal Tombs TYPICAL FEATURES:-painted shoulders w/ red friezes - Thick red slip and burnish

-EB III Late Abydos Ware - Jugs and Juglets w/ full Red Slip -Some with or without Stump Base

TYPICAL FEATURES:-painted shoulders w/ red friezes - Thick red slip and burnish

KHIRBET KERAK WARE EBIII
-Local/Handmade, fired at low temp-Non-local shapes: Hearths, Stands, Funnels, Lids -Slipped & Burnished (color controlled by fire)-Color Rule: if 2 colors red on inside black on outside-Inside= red (oxidizing)-Outside = black (reducing)-Clay brittle/not well made

KHIRBET KERAK WARE BOWL KHIRBET KERAK WARE LIDS EBIII
-Plastic Decoration (Spirals, Triangles), Geom. Incisions-Red/Black - Shiny/Smooth-Challenge to original theory that E. Anatolian group migrated here-Amnon Ben-Tor theory of potters migrating south - challenged that there is no trail of KKW heading here-Lids often knobs w/ holes
