Gloria Steinem
American feminist, political activist, and writer-editor who played an influential role in the Women’s movement in the late 20th century. In 2013, Steinm ded the esidential Medal of Freedom.
Phyllis Schlafry
American writer and political activist and was a well known and outspoken defender of the traditional family. She was most famous for opposing the Equal Rights Amendment.
Equal Rights Amendment
Passed by Congress in 1972, fell 3 States short, Americans supported ratification the ERA failed and the supporters went to work trying to get women elected into state legislatures

Caesar Chavez
Spent his childhood toiling like his parents as a migrant farmworker. As an adult he established the National Farm workers association (NFWA) in 1962. Chavez led several high profile non-violent protests that generally ended with better conditions for workers.
Dolores Huerta
grew up in Stockton California eventually becoming an elementary school teacher. After seeing the poverty of her students, many whom were children of farm workers she got involved in advocacy work for the workers and their families. In 1962 Huerta and Chavez confounded the Fram Workers Union that would become the United Farm Worker (UFW) while Chavez was the face of the organization it was Huerta who used her organizational skills to help UFW succeed.

Stonewall Riots
New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The raid sparked a riot among bar patrons and neighborhood residents as police roughly hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement outside
