What type of cell is bacteria?
Prokaryote
Define prokaryotes
Very small single celled organisms with no nucleus + no membrane bound organelles in their cytoplasm
A typic prokaryotic cell will always contain?
Cell wall → made of murein, 10 - 80nm thick
Cell surface membrane → controls what substances leave + enter cell
Circular DNA → free in cytoplasm + not associated with protein
Ribosomes → 70s, where protein synthesis takes place
Cytoplasm → jelly like, contains enzymes + other soluble materials
What are some structures that could be present in a prokaryotic cell?
Capsule → layer of slime that surrounds cell wall
Plasmids → small rings of DNA
Flagellum → allows cell movement, could contain one or more
