-1844 Rochdale pioneers established first of a national cooperative movement → annoyed O’Connor who saw it as distraction from Chartism

-Early days Chartism supported by TUs who’s sent representatives such as Kersal Moor 1838 but Sacred Month caused them to pull away (expected backlash from gov)

-TUs care more about economic than political

-O’Connor changed name of Northern Star to National Trades Journal 1844 but lack of incentive for TUs so measures failed
