The room is barely furnished with odd things, which seem to have never been used. In the corner is an unlocked heavy door that leads to an old, ruined chapel, which had evidently been a graveyard. The wooden boxes that had been delivered were filled with earth, and the Count was in a box on top of one of the piles of freshly dug earth. The Count's eyes were open, but they did not seem to register Jonathan's presence.
Jonathan tells the Count that he wants to leave the night of 29 June, but he suddenly changes his mind. Why?
The Count tells Jonathan that he can leave if he wishes, and he opens the door. Just outside the door is a pack of snarling wolves ready to attack, so Jonathan begs the Count to close the door.
