reciprocal altruism
the act of helping others in the hope that they will help us in the future
reciprocity
a helpful action that is repaid at a later date by the recipient of the assistance (b/c individuals that are helped generally return the favors they recieve)
prisoner's dilemma
a particular "game" between two captured prisoners that illustrates why cooperation is difficult to maintain even when it is mutually beneficial (defection is always the best strategy unless u have prior knowledge that the other participant is likely to cooperate)
multiplay prisoner's dilemma
scales the game up to more than two players, and is oftem used to model collective action problems and societal issues
alloparental care
primary benefit of grouping is access to offspring care, often from father or social partner, and sometimes fron kin that helps a mother rear her brood

type of social system in which more than two individuals care for young

Birds (relatives) stick around to help assist with parents new offspring which benefits the helper as he is indirectly helping the reproduction of his own genes while waiting to mate later in life

juvenile helpers that are offspring of the parents being helped
deliver more help than secondary helpers
secondary helpers
juvenile helpers that are unrelated to parents being helped
deliver less help than primary helpers
