Mathematics

the science of structure, order, and relation that has evolved from elemental practices of counting, measuring, and describing the shapes of objects.

Theoretical Mathematics

is the study of abstract mathematical structures which form the basic framework for the rest of the mathematical sciences.

Practical Math

a text/workbook that covers essential math concepts and how they are applied on the job

Mathematical thinking

process is the explanation and collaboration of mathematics through problem-solving, reasoning and proof, communication, connections, and representation.

Mathematics is a language

A phrase or formula has the same meaning, regardless of another language that accompanies it.

Mathematics is an art

Both disciplines require spatial reasoning skills and the ability to recognize patterns.

Logic Patterns

These patterns are seen on aptitude tests in which takers are shown a sequence of pictures and asked to select which figure comes next among choice

Number Patterns

is a pattern or sequence in a series of numbers. It shows a common relationship between all numbers

Geometric Patterns

motif or design that depicts abstract shapes like lines, polygons and circles, and typically repeats like wallpaper

Word Patterns

Patterns can also be found in language like the morphological rules on pluralizing nouns or conjugating verbs for tense, as well as the metrical rules of poetry.

Fibonacci Sequence

is an array of numbers that given two terms, the next term is determined by adding the given terms.

Constant

fixed and well-defined number or other mathematical object.

Variable

a symbol used to represent an arbitrary element of a set.

Algebraic expression

in mathematics, it is an expression which is made up of variables and constants along with algebraic operations

Algebraic equation

statement of the equality of two expressions formulated by applying to a set of variables the algebraic operations, namely, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, raising to a power, and extraction of a root.

Problem

Is a statement requiring a solution, usually by means of mathematical operation/ geometric construction

Problem Solving

Is a process and an ongoing activity which we take what we know to discover what we don’t know.

It involves overcoming obstacle by generating hypothesis, testing those prediction and arriving at satisfactory solution

Method

ways and techniques used to get answer which will usually involve one or more solving strategies.

Answer

a number, quantity or some entity that the problem is asking for.

whole process of solving problem including the method of obtaining an answer and the answer itself

Reasoning

essential skills in math most especially in problem solving.

Reasoning

an ability of a person to analyze situations and construct logical arguments to justify to process or hypothesis

Makes broad generalization from specific observation

Used in application that involve prediction, forecasting, behavior

Deductive Reasoning

the process of reaching conclusions based on previously known facts.

The conclusions reached by this type of reasoning are valid and reliable.
